Barbados is an English-speaking island that boasts of being the most easterly, stretching from
Florida on the North American mainland to the Guianas on the South American continent. The island is generally flat with only a few hilly terrains located mainly in the parish of St. Andrew the eastern part of the island. It is 166 square miles to be exact and the body of Barbados is made up of soft coral limestone. The sea world beneath it is like none other, which can be viewed by our submarines, catamarans, and diving crew. The beauty of its body can be enjoyed when you visit the island’s soft white sandy beaches and bathe in the crystal clean water. The capital of Barbados is called Bridgetown, and there are two other towns where you can do shopping at your own convenience. These towns are: Speightstown and Holetown which is located along the West Coast.
The current population in Barbados today is 273 000 which is predominately African descent, with the Europeans and other ethnic groups. This is a result of the slaves who came far from off the African coastlines to build our nation and work the sugar crops that led to the European’s wealth. Britain has left its stamped on this country from language, religion, to architecture after King James I of England claimed it in 1625. However, we gained our independence on November 30, 1966, which was led by the Excellent Sir Errol Walton Barrow. The rest of our history can still be viewed in the Barbados Museum, where our professionals will further enhance your knowledge about the indigenous inhabitants who settled on the land before the Europeans came.
Today the island, which many call their home, is a newly developed, peaceful environment where less crime is committed. The weather in Barbados is always stable with a forecast of mostly sunny with few scattered showers. Even though the island lies along the hurricane chain we are blessed and have not encountered a direct hit since 1955. As a result, there is always time for fun and frolic where you can visit the unforgettable sights of Harrison Cave and the Animal Flower Cave, view a picturesque underwater tour with the Atlantic Submarine, and take an adventurous tour with Island Safari. On Friday nights, the streets come alive with pulsating rhythms of Calypso, Reggae, and other genres of music in the Oistins area. While in other parishes, the party spots are often opened at 10.00pm until the late hours of the morning. During some of these activities, you will be introduced to some of our finest dishes and drink the authentic spirits that are made in our island. Barbados is Sweet Fuh Days!
